Instructions for Bridgemate Pro scoring system v1.2.5

Please read this instructions carefully before you perform the update. You are recommended to print this page.

The update consists of the following parts

  • Update of Bridgemate Pro Control v1.6 (latest revision is 1.6.16)
  • Update of Bridgemate Pro Server v1.2.5
  • Update of Bridgemate firmware v2.2.1a
  • Update of wireless radio transmission protocol v1.3
The first three updates are required for all users. You cannot update only a selected part of these updates. Users who update their Bridgemates from firmware 2.0a to 2.2.1a are also required to update the wireless radio tranmission protocol to version 1.3. Users who update from firmware 2.1a or 2.1.2a are not required to perform the transmission protocol update.

Note: Reprogramming the Bridgemate takes about 1 or 3 minutes per Bridgemate, depending on whether the wireless radio tranmission protocol update is performed or not.

Preparations

Make sure your computer is switched on and that all programs are closed. If you use an USB --> serial converter, connect it to the USB port and ensure it is properly functioning.

Download the following files and save them on your computer:
  • BPCupd1-6-16.exe (Bridgemate Pro Control v1.6.16 update)
  • serv125.exe (Bridgemate Pro server v1.2.5 update)
  • RFmodem13.bpf (Bridgemate RF protocol v1.3 update)
  • Correct Bridgemate v2.2.1a firmware file for your language and region
BPCupd1-6-16.exe, serv125.exe and RFmodem13.bpf update files are independent of region or language.

After the update files (4 files in total, or 3 in case you don't need to update the transmission protocol) have been downloaded successfully, you can start with the update procedure. You are advised to follow the sequence as described below:

Step 1: update Bridgemate Pro server v1.2.5

  1. Connect the server to the serial port and make sure it is connected to the mains power source.
  2. Start Windows Explorer, go to the folder where you stored the files and double click on "serv125.exe" (depending on your computer settings, the extension .exe may not be visible). The server update program will now start.
  3. You can choose a language in which you want the instructions to be displayed.
  4. After choosing the language, click Next.
  5. Make sure the server is connected as instructed above, and press Next again.
  6. The server will now be reprogrammed. Wait for the program to be finished.
  7. After the server has been successfully reprogrammed, press Next again to exit the program.

Step 2: update Bridgemate Pro Control v1.6.16

  1. Start Windows Explorer, go to the folder where you stored the files.
  2. Download the file to your desktop and double-click to start. At the install folder selection screen browse to the folder where Bridgemate Pro Control was previously installed. Click Next to start the update procedure. It should ask to overwrite the previous file.
  3. Make sure that the server is still connected and start Bridgemate Pro Control from the Windows Start menu.
  4. Only for users who updated from server firmware 1.0: Upon initial start, you are asked to enter the region and the display language of the program. Choose the region which you are in and press "Set". You should see the message that the region has been set to one you have chosen. (Make sure you choose the correct region and that you have downloaded the correct Bridgemate firmware. The Bridgemate uses radio-wave frequency to communicate. Choosing an incorrect region may result in a non-working Bridgemate system. You can always change the region from the menu "Server" in Bridgemate Pro Control.)
  5. After having successfully set the region, press "Close". Bridgemate Pro Control will now start. Verify that in upper left frame firmware version 1.2.5 is shown.

Step 3: Update Bridgemate radio transmission protocol v1.3

Note: Only for users with Bridgemate firmware version 2.0a
  1. Make sure Bridgemate Pro Control is running.
  2. Go to menu Tools --> Options and tick the option "Disable server detection". Press OK.
  3. Remove the server from the serial port (leave any USB converter connected to the serial port). Wait for "Bridgemate RF server: not connected" to appear in the upper left frame.
  4. Now connect the Bridgemate data communication cable to the serial port. If you don't have one, contact your Bridgemate distributor for how to obtain one.
  5. Go to menu Tools --> Bridgemate --> Update firmware.
  6. Make sure the cable is properly connected and press OK. The firmware update screen now appears.
  7. Press "Choose firmware file".
  8. Browse to the folder where you stored the files, select the file "RFmodem13.bpf" and press "Open". The file should now appear behind the text "Path".
  9. Take the Bridgemate you want to update, activate it by pressing the OK button and connect the data communication cable to the socket on the backside of the Bridgemate. You should see the message "Connect: Bridgemate v1.2" and "Writing firmware…".
  10. Wait for the progress indicator to reach 100% and the text "Writing firmware completed. Disconnect Bridgemate" to appear.
  11. Now disconnect the cable from the Bridgemate. The Bridgemate will switch off automatically.
  12. Press OK on the Bridgemate, you should see the text "OK to update RF" followed by version numbers.
  13. Press OK again on the Bridgemate. The text "Step 1 of 2" appears, and a status indicator will show the progress.
  14. Wait for the status indicator to reach the far end of the screen for the second time and the text "Programming successful" to appear.
NOTE: in case you see the text "Programming failed", repeat steps 9 to 14 again. If this message keeps appearing, please contact your Bridgemate supplier.
  15. Repeat steps 9 to 14 for all other Bridgemates you want to reprogram.

Step 4: Update of Bridgemate firmware v2.2.1a

  1. Repeat step 1 to 7 of "step 3: Update Bridgemate radio transmission protocol".
  2. Browse to the folder where you stored the files, select the Bridgemate firmware file (for example EN221a.bpf) and press "Open". The file should now appear behind the text "Path".
  3. Take the Bridgemate you want to update, activate it by pressing the OK button and ensure it shows the text "Programming successful". Connect the data communication cable to the socket on the backside of the Bridgemate. You should see the message "Connect: Bridgemate v1.2" and "Writing firmware…".
  4. Wait for the progress indicator to reach 100% and the text "Writing firmware completed. Disconnect Bridgemate" to appear.
  5. Now disconnect the cable from the Bridgemate. The Bridgemate will switch off automatically.
  6. Press OK on the Bridgemate, you should see the text "Bridgemate Pro v2.2.1a EN" (the last two letters correspond to the first two letters of the firmware file). The Bridgemate has now successfully been reprogrammed to version 2.2.1a.
  7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 for all other Bridgemates.
In case reprogramming firmware is interrupted, Bridgemate Pro Control will show a message that writing the firmware failed. In such a case, reconnect the Bridgemate and press OK to restart the firmware writing process.

After successfully performing all four updates, you can start using the Bridgemate Pro system.
